Members and Officers Present: - Councillor Lisa Rutter (Chairman), Councillor Caroline Stock (Vice-Chairman); Jamie Cooke, Strategic Lead – Effective Borough Travel, Naomi Kwasa - Governance
CHAIRMAN’S INTRODUCTION
The Chairman introduced herself and the Officers present and welcomed everyone to the meeting.
1. PARKING/ACCESS IN STRODE CLOSE AND SURROUNDING ROADS – SUBMITTED BY LAURA COPE
The petition was introduced by Mr Alan Snell, on behalf of the Lead Petitioner. The residents discussed at length with Members and Officers the problems they face with parking due to several local Garages parking and working on client’s cars on the surrounding streets, as well as the actions that have been taken to address the problem which have been so far been unsuccessful. Mr Cooke confirmed he will raise the issues with relevant teams, including the Parking Enforcement and Community Protection Teams. Residents felt strongly that, despite the involvement of Parking Enforcement on numerous occasions previously, this action has not been successful in stopping the Garages parking client’s cars on the surrounding roads, including the car park belonging to a block of council flats, and that the only resolution would be to introduce a CPZ.
The Chairman referred the petition to the Chipping Barnet Area Committee to look at introducing a CPZ on the roads affected.
2. THE UNSAFE STATE OF THE PAVEMENTS IN BIRLEY ROAD AND SURROUNDING AREAS – SUBMITTED BY DAVID CARNAC
The issue was introduced by David Carnac, who showed Members and Officers photos of the problematic areas of the pavement in Birley Road, in particular on the west side, outside the odd-numbered houses. The issue was discussed with the resident and Ward Councillors who agreed to visit the road and look at the state of the pavement. Officers confirmed that there would be another site visit by an inspector which Ward Councillors would be invited to join and that there are a number of pending repairs which would be carried out when the weather improves.
The Chairman agreed to take no further action.
The meeting finished at 19.31 Future meeting dates:N.B Issues and Petitions must be received by the Governance Service by 10am on the seventh working day prior to the meeting for the item to be discussed at the Forum.
