Stop Development of Tall Towers in B&Q Cricklewood Site
Moreover, such development if approved will create a precedent
which in turn would pave a way for further approvals to build even
taller buildings in our neighbourhood.
Our concerns are on:
Loss of area character
Loss of light and overshadowing
Overlooking and loss of privacy
Increased burden on public transport
Inadequacy of parking and loading
Traffic generation, compromised roads access and highway
safety
Increased pollution
Increased burden on our sewage and water systems
Increased noise and disturbance resulting from use
During the past decade Barnet residents were already familiar
with frighteningly regular road works for burst pipes in the area,
almost daily traffic jams for over 30 minutes between Willesden
Green, Kilburn and Cricklewood and overcrowded buses.
The proposal for circa 1000 new homes will add to the problems
greatly,
Therefore, the questions to be considered in any development of
that scale should be as follows:
1. Why are very tall towers an acceptable solution to the housing
development on the B&Q site in Barnet
2. Why can't the housing development be on a human scale and not
more than 9 storeys high - in line with the recent approved
developments on the site of the Co-op on Cricklewood Lane and
Matalan on Cricklewood Broadway
3. Why are the tall towers necessary to fill up the required
‘density’
4. If indeed the increased density is approved by Barnet Council
then can such a density be achieved using blocks no more than 9
storeys high
WE URGE YOU TO REJECT THIS SCHEME IN FAVOUR OF ONE THAT EXTENDS
TO A MAXIMUM OF 9 STOREYS ONLY OVER THE ENTIRE SITE
