Take measures to reduce traffic speed on Fortis Green
Fortis Green is a long straight flat road with narrow pavements
which sees heavy speeding traffic including large lorries and
buses. It's also a busy pedestrian thoroughfare with many families
with young children. There is a history of pedestrian accidents at
the low visibility zebra crossing at the Fortis Green / Durham road
junction. There is also very narrow pavement with a very badly
placed bus stop at the junction with the High Street, meaning
people queue up and pedestrians are often forced to step into the
high street. Also the speed limit is 20mph on Fortis Green as you
leave Muswell Hill meaning that cars often speed up as they enter
East Finchley.
The safety of pedestrians would be greatly improved if measures
were taken to slow traffic down.
