The current zebra crossing is not fit for purpose as, increasingly, motorists are approaching it too fast, particularly those coming from St Albans Road. There have been numerous examples recently of "near misses", when pedestrians, especially those emerging from the Spires have been forced to take evasive action to avoid being struck by a vehicle. A pelican crossing would remove the discretion to stop, which some motorists, regrettably, see as an option.
