CHAIRMAN'S INTRODUCTION

The Chairman welcomed everyone to the virtual meeting.

1.

Colindale LTN - Booth Road & The Greenway

Minutes:

  1. Petition: Colindale LTN - Booth Road & The Greenway

Lead Petitioner: Osher Posen

Ward: Hendon

Number of signatures: 190

The lead petitioner presented the petition, highlighting the problems faced by concerned residents. The Council’s proposed scheme would cause major disruption to road users, particularly affecting school children with no other means to safe school travel.

Residents from neighbouring streets would also be affected. The petitioner pointed out that the consultation did not take into account the wide ranging needs of road users. It was noted that measurements of the roads as well as monitoring of traffic was needed for transport efficiency.

Officers advised that informal engagement had been held to gauge the views of residents. The roads in question had been chosen to curb accidents and speeding issues. However, residents’ feedback during this process will help address issues identified to formulate a more acceptable proposal at a future date

RESOLVED – That no action be taken. A decision has been made by the Executive Director to withdraw the scheme and the Chairman stipulated that all petitioners will be consulted on any future proposals

2.

Issue: Abbotts Road HA8

Minutes:

2.    Issue: Abbotts Road HA8

Lead Speaker: Ikraj Thancanamootoo

Ward: Hendon

The lead speaker highlighted parking problems faced especially by residents living opposite to Menorah Primary School. The resident said that some problems were caused by the single yellow line outside residents’ homes, forcing residents to move their cars to different locations.

Consistent parking during peak hours have been blocking homeowners from exiting their driveways. Cars parked on pavements were causing safety hazards to pedestrians and wheelchair users.

The Vice Chair carried out a site visit and pointed out that parking restrictions outside the school had likely exasperated problems and advised that dialogue between the school and residents needed to take place.

Officers advised that the Committee’s approval towards a solution had addressed initial safety concerns but inadvertently brought about other problems which would be addressed with community safety and other teams in order to look at issues holistically.

The Lead Officer assured residents that as an interim solution, issues would be raised with the parking enforcement team.

RESOLVED – That the issue be referred to the Executive Director, Environment. The Chairman stipulated that the lead petitioner and other affected residents be involved in future discussions before the best solution for the road is implemented.
