They explained that the traffic on Longmore Avenue was very fast moving and that trying to cross the road at the junction with Monks Avenue was often difficulty, due to the view being obscured by cars and traffic coming past from multiple directions.

The Petitioner noted that several incidents had occurred in the location and asked the Council to investigate suitable traffic calming measures as well as specifically the feasibility of a pedestrian crossing.

The Chairman advised the petitioner to also contact the Safer Neighbourhood team about conducting a speed watch survey, which would provide some statistics around speeding in the area.

3.    Speeding on Oakleigh Road North

The Lead petitioner was given 3 minutes to introduce the petition to the forum. They explained that vehicles were travelling down Oakleigh Road North at excessive speeds, which had resulted in several high impact accidents. They expressed particular concern around the fact that there were two primary schools on the stretch of road and accidents had occurred during school times, but currently no safety measures were in place to control speeding.

The petitioner explained they had discussed the matter with their ward councillor and that a police traffic warden had attended the area on a couple of occasion to ticket speeding vehicles, however this was not a long-term solution to the problem. They felt the speeding issue had worsened over the last few months. They asked that both road markings and Vehicle activated signs be considered.

Officers acknowledged the petitioner’s concern and advised that officers would be asked to attend the site, assess the situation, and investigate any possible solutions.
