Implement a 20mph Speed Limit on East Finchley's County Roads
We the undersigned petition the council to We petition the council to introduce a 20mph speed limit on East Finchley's County Roads (Hertford Road, Durham Road, Leicester Road, Lincoln Road, Bedford Road, Huntingdon Road). Currently the High Road has a speed limit of 20mph and this increases to 30mph for these residential roads. The County Roads are used as a cut through from Fortis Green and the High Road. Cars race down these roads, at high speeds, that are inhabited by families with young children and older residents.
According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), reducing speed limits from 30mph to 20mph has been shown to decrease accidents by approximately 60% in urban areas. Therefore, it is crucial that we extend the existing 20mph speed limit from the High Road onto the County Roads in order to ensure resident safety. Please sign this petition if you believe that all residents should be able to live in a safe environment free from excessive traffic speeds.
