1.         From Councillor Barry Rawlings

Given the concerns expressed by the Planning Inspector Mr Mears at the Examination in Public of the North London Waste Plan will the Cabinet Member update Council on whether the NLWA will seek a more appropriate site for the Waste Treatment Plant rather than Pinkham Way?

I do believe the concerns raised by the inspector were to do with the site it self, however there is a meeting on the 25^th of this month and I’m sure we’ll know more then.

Does Councillor Coleman consider the business discussed by the Urgency Committee of the North London Waste Authority held on Tuesday 3^rd July to be important and will he list the Boroughs who failed to send a representative?

The business discussed by the North London Waste Authority was vital to the future of the procurement process being undertaken by the Authority. I was therefore shocked by the failure of the Labour-controlled London Boroughs of Waltham Forest, Enfield, Hackney and Camden to send any councillor to the meeting. Seems to me that the Labour Party do not always take the affairs of the NLWA with the due seriousness they deserve.

            Could the Member give the dates and the Agenda subjects of Barnet          Community Safety and Engagement Group meetings which they have         attended?

I have never been asked to any of the meetings. It’s just on paper and has been for a long time. If somebody invites me to a meeting, I go to it. I’m sure my fellow Councillors will say the same.

Similarly, I have never received any agenda or notification. There has obviously been a breakdown somewhere between the Council and Community Barnet some way in which the notifications should have been sent but haven’t been sent.

I’m grateful to Councillor Coleman for raising this matter because I thought, gosh, no one has ever invited me. I actually wrote, when I saw Councillor Coleman’s helpful question, to the person on their website who turns out not to be the person now in charge. I did eventually make contact with the person in charge, who told me that she has only been there for a few weeks and didn’t know what was happening and all I can tell you is the next meeting is on the 24^th September, which is during the Liberal Democrat Conference, when I won’t be there. Next meeting is on the 22^nd December and I actually believe that this should be brought in-house to the Council because I don’t think we are getting value from the people administrating it at the moment.
