Councillor Alison Moore moved the Opposition Business item in her name. Councillors Brian Coleman and Richard Cornelius moved their amendments. Debate ensued. Upon being put to the vote the amendment in the name of Councillor Brian Coleman was declared lost. Upon being put to the vote the amendment in the name of Councillor Richard Cornelius was declared carried. Upon being put to the vote substantive Business Item as amended by Councillor Richard Cornelius was declared carried.

 

RESOLVED - Council is proud of the inspirational work of Nelson Mandela in fighting racism and injustice. Council particularly notes his visionary example of forgiveness and lack of bitterness after 27 years in prison.

 

Council commits to seeking a sponsor to fund an annual memorial lecture to be held on the anniversary of his death and will actively encourage young people from across Barnet’s diverse community to attend and participate.
