CHAIRMAN’S INTRODUCTION

The Chairman introduced herself and the Officers present and welcomed everyone to the meeting.

1.    RESIDENTS PARKING FOR GREEN ROAD, RASPER ROAD & SHERWOOD STREET N20 – SUBMITTED BY FAISAL CHOUHDRY

The petition was introduced by the Lead Petitioner, Mr Faisal Chouhdry. The residents discussed at length with Members and Officers the problems they face with parking due to the sheer volume of non-residents parking on these roads, along with several local garages parking and working on client’s cars and the pressure of traffic and parking for the 3 local schools. The consequence is that residents are unable to park anywhere near their houses, which has become more problematic since surrounding roads were restricted with CPZs, pushing more cars onto the roads mentioned in the petition. It was noted that the Lead Petitioner had now also spoken to residents in Sherwood Terrace, who would also like a CPZ to extend to their road. Residents queried the cost of a parking permit, which Officers confirmed is dependant on the car and its level of emissions, however residents confirmed they understood their would be a cost to buy a permit, should the CPZ be introduced.

The Chairman referred the petition to the Chipping Barnet Area Committee to look at introducing a CPZ on the roads affected.

4.    TO CONFIRM IF THE FORUMS WILL BE USED AS PART OF THE PUBLIC CONSULTATION EXERCISE ON THE RADICAL CHANGES TO THE COUNCIL – SUBMITTED BY JOHN DIX

Mr Dix introduced the issue and explained why he feels it is important that consultations take place within the forum whereby residents can have open and free-flowing discussions with Councillors and Officers. The Chairman confirmed that she already allows residents to have open and free-flowing discussions at the forum using her discretion as Chairman.  The Chairman however informed Mr Dix that his request to use residents forums as part of the public consultation exercise to discuss the radical changes to the council would be difficult as there is only one council officer who attends at the resident forum and that officer would not be able to answer the questions straight away. It would therefore  ...  view the full minutes text for item 1.
