Any Items that the Chairman Decides are Urgent

Minutes:

The Chairman raised the issue regarding the bagging of the pedestrian crossing lights at the Oakleigh Road North / Whetstone High Road junction.

The Sub-Committee discussed the impact of the trial at the crossing has had on pedestrians trying to cross and agreed that in the interest of pedestrian safety the bagging should be removed and the crossing lights reinstated.

The Highways Manager informed the Sub-Committee that TfL had been consulted on the feasibility of introducing some changes to the pedestrian crossing, including segregating from the Totteridge Lane link and introducing sensors. The potential cost of making such changes was anticipated to be between £10,000 - £15,000. The Highways Manager advised the Sub-Committee that as a large number of TfL resources were currently taken up by Olympics, it could take up to 6 months before confirmation on feasibility and cost was received from TfL.

RESOLVED – That;

1.   officers are instructed to remove the bagging and re-instate the pedestrian crossing lights at the Oakleigh Road North / Whetstone High Road junction with immediate effect.

   2.   a progress report is brought to the next appropriate meeting of the Sub-Committee on whether there have been any incidents since the bagging has been removed and what the impact has been on the flow of traffic.

3.   Officers make a request to TfL to provide firm costings on the potential changes and report these with appropriate recommendations to a future meeting.
