Members Item - Councillor Jim Tierney pdf icon PDF 93 KB

    Minutes:

A briefing on betting shops was circulated to the Committee.

Having considered the briefing the Committee agreed that it should seek to address the issue, noting that the Council has a duty of care to take action where there are safeguarding issues.

It was noted that addressing the problem could be challenging as potential action would involve an Article 4 Direction and lobbying central government to take action. It was noted that several members have already written to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Mr Eric Pickles on the issue of betting shops in Barnet’s High Streets, and that further lobbying may be required.

Officers agreed to circulate a briefing providing further information and potential options.
