The Housing Allocations Scheme sets out how the Council allocates council housing, housing association properties and private rented sector homes in the borough. There are a number of minor amendments proposed to the current scheme to reflect the findings of a full Equality Impact Assessment recently undertaken, compliance with recent case law and to ensure that the Scheme is more explicit in reference to the various statutory criteria as set out in the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Localism Act 2011.
In particular, these changes will make the application of Community Contribution more reasonable for single parent households who are the primary carers of pre-school children. The changes will also remove a current discrepancy in the Scheme by clarifying that applicants experiencing domestic violence who are placed into emergencytemporary accommodation will remain in Band 1 for re-housing, whilst applicants who are experiencing domestic violence and are placed in suitable longer-term temporary accommodation will be rebanded appropriately, in accordance with the Allocations Scheme. Other minor wording amendments have been proposed to enable the scheme to become more transparent and accessible to applicants.
